Personal note

They say salespeople need to ask for the order.  This is what I’m doing.  😊

The modern music business is all about streaming.  Nearly 80% of music is consumed by streaming platforms, with Spotify as the big behemoth.  Worldwide, there are nearly 1 billion consumers of streamed music, and about 120,000 new songs are uploaded every day.  There are probably enough consumers supporting diverse micro-genres to expect most decent music could find an audience.  The problem, is getting wide enough distribution such that those consumers will ever hear something that resonates with their tastes.

As I’ve worked to compose and produce music, I realize I’ve developed a style.  Lyrically, my stories seem to tend toward irony or a bit of humor, and cover generations, not just boomers.  I suspect there are people who will understand the empathy, or perhaps cautionary tale, of a young woman wanting a baby but being hasty in her partner choices (What Did You Trade).  I know among the colleagues of my career profession that some will know of the family pressures of a spouse travelling extensively, and that spouse facing potentially destructive life style choices while on the road, only to be captured in this lifestyle by lucrative bonuses (Down In California).  And most people have already, or will, face problems of a loved one dealing with a potentially terminal illness (We Have A Photograph).  I’ve got a lot more stories in the works.  I'm working to find my way to people who enjoy these stories in the musical style I present them.

To get to a wide enough audience to discover those who might truly relate to these stories, I need to push the magic algorithms.  This is where I ask for your help—help me drive these algorithms.  You know what that means.  Listen completely, listen again, like, add to your playlists, follow, subscribe, share.

Your support would mean the world to me.  This effort is harder than anything I ever did in my career.  Your support is not about the financial renumeration (streams don’t produce much, and in fact, the streaming platforms, other than perhaps Bandcamp and Soundcloud, are skewed to the big labels), but support represents encouragement to continue, and perhaps even to invest in better production.

So, I am humbly, very humbly, asking for your support.  Much appreciated.

 Thanks,     Tom
