ABOUT
indie alt-rock & folk-rock
From its beginning in the pandemic on an inherited guitar in a home studio, Jade Onion, founded by Tom Hiester, sought to pluck strings that resonate across generations with sounds and lyrics.
Jade Onion's music is a mix of indie alt-rock and folk-rock that might be described as David Bowie joins Brooke Annibale and The National. Tom came of age in the era of Hendrix, Buffalo Springfield, and Led Zeppelin, grew through ACDC, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty and the Seattle (Tom's home) grunge scene.
Tom’s music characteristically is based on acoustic and electric guitar, both chiming and overdriven, with vocals floating atop more modern use of reverbed piano, synths and strings. Check out Jade Onion's Artist Playlist on Spotify for a curated list of the acts that inspire its music. Lyrically, Tom’s stories are based in relationships of thirty-somethings loving and leaving up to those of older people dealing with the end of life. His stories are often imbued with irony and a slightly cynical humor.
